My Missing Child
I'd given birth to nine children for Benjamin Mitchell, but every one vanished without exception before their first birthday.
I endured the agony of losing a child again and again. I shattered completely, even developing mental illness.
Yet Benjamin stayed by my side, shielding me from all gossipHis eyes reddened with heartache as he soothed me: "We'll have more children. I'll always love you."
I believed him, willingly conceiving our tenth child.
Then, when the baby turned one, I caught him giving the child to his new mistress. His buddies joked beside him:
"Having such a fertile wife is the best—she just keeps popping kids."
"Benjamin sure knows how to play. Every new mistress gets a baby as a gift. Cars, houses, babies... They can become a mom without trouble. What woman wouldn't love that?"
Benjamin chuckled, lighting a cigarette carelessly:
"They're all young girls. Childbirth wrecks their bodies—I can't bear that. Professional matters should be left to professionals, right?"
Raucous laughter filled the room.
Only I stood frozen outside the door, my swollen belly protruding, icy dread seizing me.
Chapter 1
Beside them, Kim Hill cradled the baby, frowning in complaint:
"Why's it a girl?"
Kim tugged Benjamin's sleeve, pouting: "Benjamin, I want another child. I want a boy. I don't like girls."
He pulled her close, smiling indulgently: "Fine. Whatever gender you want, I'll make her bear it."
The child squirmed restlessly in Kim's arms. Kim impatiently pinched its thigh secretly. The baby wailed, only to have its mouth muffled by Kim.
She hissed a warning: "Quiet!"
My heart clenched like a fist.
I'd dug my nails into my palm until it bled, but I didn't even feel it. I trembled when watching the scene unfold.
Kim whined on: "Ugh, handing it over at one year old? It'll never bond with me! I want a newborn!"
Benjamin lowered his gaze, brimming with doting: "What do you know?
Infants are exhausting—that's why she raises them first. It can pare you the trouble."
He leaned close and whispered in Kim's ear: "I’d be heartbroken if you got even a single wrinkle."
Kim tapped him coquettishly.
A buddy spoke up hesitantly: "But… what if something goes wrong with your wife? She keeps having babies, and keeps losing them?"
Benjamin's expression flickered for a moment, but his voice remained flat:
"She's a breeding machine. What's a few kids given away?
If needed, I'll settle down in a few years and let her bear some kids belonged to us as compensation."
Filthy remarks swirled through the room.
Someone even suggested I bear more children to please their parents.
Benjamin agreed to each request with a smile.
My legs gave way and my mind went blank
Clutching my six-month pregnant belly, I fled in a panic.
When I got home, I locked myself in my room.
I clapped a hand over my mouth to muffle any sound that might escape.
The soul-crushing grief I'd endured time and again—all orchestrated by the man sharing my bed, the father of my children...
He'd handed our children to his mistresses, one after another.
Every time he had a new mistress, he took another child away from me.
This time, the mistress by his side became his childhood sweetheart, Kim.
I burst into tears and screamed hoarsely.
I beat my belly violently, desperate to abort the unborn baby inside.
I had once looked forward to every child Benjamin and I would have.
Now, everything about Benjamin just felt utterly disgusting.
Benjamin didn't come home until midnight.
As soon as he walked in, his eyes reddened, and he knelt before me: "Rachel Hill, I'm sorry, the child... taken out by the nanny this morning, actually went missing..."
Seeing I didn't react,
He stepped forward, grabbed my hand, and his eyes burned with urgency: "I've ordered a city-wide search. We'll definitely find the baby, believe me."
This was the tenth time he'd said this to me.
The ridiculous part was, every time, he failed.
Benjamin expected me to break down, to scream and cry, but this time, I just calmly replied, "I know."
Benjamin's eyes widened in shock.
Before he could ask about my odd behavior, a phone call interrupted.
When he answered, my sharp ears picked up Kim's voice, sweet and coquettish: "Benjamin, little girls are such a hassle. I want the one in Rachel's belly now..."
I couldn’t hear the rest clearly, nor did I want to.
After Benjamin left, I picked up my phone without hesitation and first scheduled the residency cancellation in five days.
Then, I dialed that number.
Chapter 2
The moment the man' voice came through, I held back my tears and spoke firmly: "I agree, but my condition is this—our child must be your heir."
The man agreed without hesitation.
As the call ended, Benjamin approached again, pulling me into his embrace and coaxing, "Rachel is such a good girl, no crying, no fussing. That's my sweet Rachel."
I was cradled in his arms, but my face remained utterly expressionless.
True, I would be obedient—so obedient that I'd vanish from his life entirely, remarrying the elite socialite heir to end his bloodline!
The next morning, Benjamin got up early. He took my hand and said gently. "Rachel, we're going for your prenatal checkup today. You've lost weight carrying this baby."
In the past, such words from Benjamin would have filled me with joy.
Now, they only filled me with disgust.
I let him lead me to the car. As the window rolled down, Kim's saccharine voice chirped, "Benjamin, why did you take so long?"
She then deliberately turned to me. "Sis, I’m not feeling well either. Do you mind if I go to the hospital with you two."
My icy gaze flicked to Benjamin.
He leaned in and whispered to me, "Let her come, hmm? Don't be upset. I'll make it up to you later, sweetheart."
In that instant, their scheme crystallized.
Today was about showing Kim my unborn child in advance.
I let out a bitter laugh, "Not at all."
Benjamin exhaled in relief, settling me into the back seat and fastening my seatbelt with exaggerated care. Kim, meanwhile, sprawled boldly in the passenger seat, shooting me a triumphant glance before coquettishly batting her lashes at Benjamin.
I remained silent throughout the hospital visit, even as the examination began.
The doctor glided the device over my belly and asked routine question: "How many pregnancies?"
I lowered my eyes, pressing my lips together, "This is the tenth."
The doctor offered no reaction.
But whispers erupted among the pregnant women waiting outside the room:
"That man and the other woman look like the real couple—he hasn't stopped staring at her. The pregnant one's probably the mistress."
"Ten kids! She's likely popping them out for different sugar daddies. Shameless slut."
Benjamin merely frowned slightly, silent.
Kim smirked at me before eagerly peering at the baby' image on the screen.
Her eyes lit up as she hurried to ask, "Well, Doctor? Boy or girl?"
This hospital was invested in by the the Mitchell family.
Benjamin could obtain any information effortlessly.
Soon, he and Kim followed the doctor into a private room, leaving me alone outside. When they emerged, Kim glared at me with sour disgust.
Benjamin took my hand apologetically.
His voice softened. "Rachel, I'm sorry. The fetus is deformed. We need to terminate."
The doctor chimed in, "Yes, a deformed child would only suffer..."
My scornful gaze swept over the trio.
Benjamin seemed to forget: I was once a medical student too.
It was that one-night love with him that derailed my studies with an unplanned pregnancy.
The baby is perfectly healthy, yet Benjamin wants me to abort her, simply because she's a girl who doesn't suit Kim's preferences!
I stared at Benjamin and blurted out, "What if I say no?"
Benjamin's expression darkened, and his voice turned colder. "Rachel, don't be unreasonable."
I had no desire to argue further and turned to leave, only to be grabbed by Kim, who'd chased after me. With feigned anxiety, she said:
"Rachel, are you upset because I came with you? I'm sorry, I apologize..."
Kim's nails dug viciously into my flesh. I winced in pain and tried to shake her off.
"Let go!"
At that moment, Kim suddenly stumbled backward, crashing onto the floor.
Simultaneously, she clutched me tightly and shoved me down the stairs. My body tumbled down the stairs several times.
Benjamin's pupils constricted as he sprinted toward us.
But the name he shouted wasn't mine.
"Kim!"
Benjamin helped Kim up, his face frantic. "Where are you hurt?
Let me see!"
Kim wiped her tears, sobbing pitifully:
"My ankle's twisted... it hurts so much..."
Benjamin's eyes reddened with distress. He scooped Kim into his arms and was already heading toward the emergency room.
Chapter 3
I clutched my stomach, trembling from the pain.
Someone in the crowd shouted, "She's bleeding!
This pregnant woman is bleeding!"
A sharp cramp tore through my abdomen.
Something wet spread between my legs, and red stains soaked through my white dress.
Benjamin froze, turning back to gaze down at me with conflicted eyes: "Rachel, if you hadn't pushed Kim on purpose, this wouldn't have happened... Don't blame anyone."
I shook my head desperately, tears streaming as my voice quivered:
"It wasn't me... It wasn't..."
Benjamin tightened his hold on Kim. His voice was gentle, but the words he spoke were cold.
"Just bear it. We were going to terminate this baby anyway. This just saves the trouble. But Kim needs to dance. Her feet can't be injured."
Then he ignored me curled on the floor.
He stepped right over me and rushed into the emergency room with Kim in his arms.
I begged the onlookers, broken:
"Help me... please help me... Help!"
The crowd murmured in pity, yet no one offered aid. Instead, cameras clicked, capturing my agony.
The last thing I saw before passing out was a doctor rushing out, lifting me onto a stretcher.
I woke up three days later. The doctor regretfully told me the baby was gone, urging me to rest and not grieve.
But I just smiled calmly.
Gone… That' a relief.
My baby didn’t deserve to be born into a family full of lies. More importantly, everything about Benjamin now filled me with utter revulsion.
After discharge, I packed the residency cancellation documents into a storage pouch at home.
Tomorrow, I'd vanish from Benjamin's sight forever!
Suddenly, Benjamin embraced me from behind. I froze, then struggled violently: "Let go!"
He murmured soothingly, "Still upset?
I told you, the baby was deformed. Giving birth would've only hurt you. I couldn't bear that."
I laughed coldly, staring at him:
"Is losing one baby after another really that trivial to you?"
He pulled me tighter, voice faltering: "It's not like childbirth takes much effort. We can always have more children, can't we?"
Tremors of rage shook my body.
How could anyone be so shameless?
How could he say such things?
Before I could resist, he swept me into his arms and threw me onto the bed: "Rachel, let's make another..."
My pupils shook in disbelief:
"Have you lost your mind?!
I just miscarried!"
Benjamin kissed me, commanding: "Have another baby. Be good... How about a son this time?"
I slapped him hard across the face.
Stunned, he blinked before rage flashed in his eyes: "You hit me?"
I curled defensively and glared at him in silent hatred.
He clenched his jaw and forced a stiff smile: "You're grieving. I'll forgive you. I'll sleep in the guest room."
Long after he left, I kept trembling.
But I was still too naive, thinking Benjamin had obediently gone to the guest room. Late at night, when I got up for water and passed by the guest room,
I saw through the door crack Benjamin kissing Kim fiercely.
Kim hooked her arms around Benjamin's neck, cooing seductively, "Get her pregnant soon. I can't wait to have a son. Or should I just carry the baby myself?"
Benjamin kissed Kim all over, his voice husky,
"Don't worry, she'll conceive quickly. You shouldn't bear children. It's too painful. I can't bear to see you suffer."
Then came sounds that made one blush...
So it wasn't that Benjamin didn't know childbirth was agonizing.
It' just that the person he truly cares about has never been me.
Chapter 4
I stood outside the door, my grip on the glass so tight it felt like it would shatter at any momentMy eyes reddened, and I clutched my chest as I vomited violently
This was all so utterly disgusting!
I remained rooted there for as long as the sounds continued inside.
Only when dawn began to break did the noises finally cease.
While Benjamin embraced Kim with tender affection,
he never noticed I'd taken the prepared Residency Cancellation Documents and resolutely left home.
Shortly after I stepped out, Benjamin sent me messages:
"Where are you?
You're still unwell—don't wander off."
"Rachel, stop throwing a fit. Having another child will help us both move past the pain. Besides, Kim sprained her ankle because of you. She missed a whole day of dancing and didn't complain. Can't you be gracious?"
These words, masquerading as concern yet dripping with command,
filled me with revulsion and rage.
At the Civil Registry Office, while filing for divorce, every shred of love I'd believed existed shattered instantly.
I stared at the clerk in disbelief. "What did you say?"
He repeated: "Your Marriage Certificate is forged. Records show you've never been married. The gentleman you mentioned has married ten times."
I scanned Benjamin's marriage records in shock—
Sophia, Nina… until the tenth entry: Kim.
In that moment, everything became clear.
Why he always delayed registering our children's Social Security Number until they turned one…
Why the maids never addressed me as Mrs. Mitchell…
From the beginning, I was just the mistress—a breeding tool for their ever-changing wives!
Coldness seeped through my bones while fire raged inside. Blood gushed from my mouth.
The clerk startled, steadying me. "Madam, are you alright?"
I stumbled out and hailed a cab to process the residency cancellation.
On the way, Benjamin's messages flooded in, filled with feigned pleading and tenderness:
"Rachel, come home. I cooked your favorite meal."
"Still ignoring me?
Sweetheart, you've gone too far this time. When you return, I'll punish you—three days in bed while I have my way with you."
Trembling, I replied:
"Of course, darling. I have a special gift for you too."
He instantly voice-messaged: "Mmm, I'll wait."
Kim's coquettish giggles echoed in the background.
I stifled vomit with my palm,
then deleted every trace of Benjamin.
Never would I lay eyes on that man again!
Oh, I'd give him an unforgettable gift indeed…
I swiftly completed the residency cancellation.
Armed with a new identity prepared by elite socialite heir Willie Baker, I boarded a flight to Washington without hesitation.
Meanwhile, Benjamin cradled Kim, doting on her and flirting with her.
The doorbell rang.
A courier stood outside, carrying a box.
Benjamin frowned. "Sorry, I didn't order anything. You've got the wrong address."
The delivery guy double-checked the information. "No mistake here. This is from Ms. Rachel Hill... a gift for you."
Benjamin's eyes widened suddenly at the name.
A sense of dread surged through him... Before he could react, Kim snatched the package triumphantly and tore open the wrapping.
But the next second,
ear-splitting screams exploded from Kim in the living room!
As for Benjamin... only a hollow ringing filled his ears before his mind went completely blank.
