The Dead Heiress Strikes Back
My fiancé Antonio and my best friend Chad murdered me to let the maid Yvonne marry in my place.
They threw me into a den of beasts, ignoring my desperate cries for help.
“Grace, Yvonne is my true love. For her happiness, would you kindly die?” Antonio said, gentle but heartless.
Chad chimed in, “Don’t blame us. Blame yourself—for standing in Yvonne’s way.”
I died with hatred in my heart.
But to my surprise, when I opened my eyes again, I had returned to one year ago.
If that’s the case, then this time, I won’t let a single one of them off the hook!
It’s time they learned what happens when you cross the heiress to the Parrish Empire!
Chapter 1
Before my wedding, my fiancé and his trusted aide crippled me and threw me off a cliff, just so the chauffeur's daughter could take my place and marry into a wealthy family.
I died a painful death, torn alive by wild wolves.
But when I opened my eyes again, I was back on the day the chauffeur was caught stealing.
It was time to remind them why my father had named me Grace. Because even the fortune teller had said I was born with blood on my hands.
I had witnessed it with my own eyes, the wolves tearing open my stomach, my intestines being yanked out and chewed apart. I died in agony and terror.
When I opened my eyes again, I was clutching my mouth, repeatedly gagging.
Someone rushed over and steadied me, gently patting my back.
"Gracie, what's wrong? Should I call the doctor?" His voice was filled with concern, but the moment I recognized him, a violent shudder ran through me.
I pushed him away in a frenzy. It was Chad Parrish, my childhood friend who grew up with me, the third-ranking member of my personal bodyguard team.
And the very man who had helped Antonio Kaufman, my fiancé, abduct me and sever my tendons.
I picked up my phone. The date on the screen was a year ago. I had been reborn!
Without showing any emotion, I pushed Chad away.
I press the bell. Soon, the servants and the butler rushed over.
Byron Watson, the butler, informed me that there were thieves in the house and asked for my decision.
As I leisurely walked into the front hall, Daniel Zander and his daughter Yvonne Zander had already been kneeling there for an hour.
The moment Daniel saw me, he started to beg for my forgiveness continuously.
Meanwhile, Yvonne, her face streaked with tears, held herself upright, looking like a main character who was facing struggles, strong and resilient, preserving her dignity.
The sight of my past-life enemies sent hatred surging through me. I couldn't contain myself, I strode forward and slapped her across the face.
Yvonne collapsed to the ground, stunned, her eyes filled with disbelief. I flexed my fingers and casually sank into the huge sofa.
She covered her cheek, large teardrops rolling down her face.
Behind me, Chad's fists clenched, his eyes filled with sorrow.
"Grace, I don't know what I did to upset you. But please, my dad only took what wasn't his because I'm sick. I beg you, spare him!" Yvonne cried, her pale face showing clear red slap marks.
I couldn't help but laugh.
Stealing was stealing. But she made it sound like he had simply "taken something that didn't belong to him".
The maids began to chime in, trying to plead on her behalf. "Ms. Parrish, please forgive them. Daniel only did it for Yvonne. Yvonne needs a liver transplant. She's so young... It's really tragic..."
"Ms. Parrish is kind-hearted. She will definitely forgive Daniel."
Byron frowned, waiting for me to speak.
"What did he steal?" My voice was cold, my authority suffocating the air in the room.
The room immediately fell silent.
Byron stepped forward and revealed a necklace. It was the one my grandmother gifted me.
In my previous life, I had let the matter slide once the necklace was returned. Byron had warned me that being too lenient would weaken my control over the household.
However, Chad told me that I should be kind. And Antonio had taken my hand, smiling as he told me how gentle and magnanimous I was.
How did I react back then? I had grinned like a fool, basking in their praise.
Looking back now, I must have been brain-dead.
I coldly announced, "This is Green Star, the jewelry my grandmother purchased at an auction. It's worth 20 million dollars. You have quite an eye for treasure!"
Gasps filled the room.
Chapter 2
"Wait, how much? Did I hear that right?"
"20 million dollars? How could Daniel have such audacity?"
"Even for a liver transplant, there's no need to steal something so valuable."
"Ms. Parrish doesn't own cheap jewelry."
Looking guilty, Daniel shot me a glance. "Ms. Parrish, I truly didn't know this item was so expensive. Please, for the sake of all the years I've worked for your family, forgive me! I won't do it again. You wouldn't want to see Yvonne die, would you?"
I looked at Daniel with disgust. Such a shameless man.
"Byron, what else was stolen?"
"Nothing, nothing at all. Absolutely my first time," Daniel quickly interjected.
Byron's gaze was intense, knowing full well that in my previous life, I had shown extra care toward the Zanders. This was due to Chad and Antonio constantly pushing me to feel sorry for Yvonne and Daniel, urging me to take better care of them, as it would help the Parrish family build a good reputation.
"Byron, speak."
"Currently, Daniel Zander has been caught on surveillance for stealing thirteen times. Among the stolen goods are gold and silver, antique vases, silk bedding, top-tier food ingredients, and countless other irreplaceable items. Additionally, there are your clothes, bags, and jewelry. I've mentioned this to you before, Ms. Parrish, but you said it didn't matter since they were out of season."
The gasps around the room grew louder.
I waved my hand dismissively. Byron thought I would let it slide as I had in the past. A look of disappointment appeared in his eyes.
"Take him to the police. Hand over all the evidence for the authorities to handle." My voice rang out loud.
Daniel and Yvonne stopped crying while Byron looked at me with excitement.
Byron had been trained by my father to be as shrewd and cold-blooded as him. However, I had been too merciful before.
But not anymore.
Daniel was visibly terrified.
"Ms. Parrish, please, have mercy. I did it all for my daughter. Please, I beg you."
Yvonne started begging for her father, "Grace, please, I beg you. Please spare my father!"
I stood up, looking down at her.
"I don't remember giving you permission to call me by my name. Who do you think you are to call me by it? Andrew, take them away. Their noise is giving me a headache."
The leader of my bodyguard team stepped forward with one of his men, taking Daniel and dragging him away.
Yvonne cried out, reaching for her father. Before she could succeed, Derek, my fourth bodyguard, threw her back and she fell.
Chad rushed to support Yvonne, who then collapsed into his arms.
Chapter 3
"Chad, please beg Grace for me. No, please beg Ms. Parrish."
Chad, holding Yvonne tightly, reproached me, "Gracie, how can you be so cruel? The items have been returned. Why are you still making things difficult for Mr. Zander?"
I walked up to Chad and gave him a big slap on his face.
"Chad Parrish, did you forget that you're my slave?"
Chad looked at me in disbelief.
In the past, my father had arranged them in alphabetical order, giving them our family name.
But I was the one who named Chad because he was the same age as me; we got along the best and I loved chatting with him.
"Grace, what did you just say?"
"I said you're my slave! Have you forgotten your identity? Who gave you permission to call me by my first name?"
Chad looked at my cold expression and realized I wasn't joking. His gaze shifted from reproach to resentment.
I remained unmoved. "Byron, fire all the maids here. They talk too much. I don't like it."
"Yes," Byron replied, immediately starting to arrange it. The maids, shocked by the sudden loss of their jobs due to their loose tongues, mentally cursed Daniel and his entire ancestry.
"Send Yvonne to work at Moonlight River Club. She can leave when she finishes paying the debt."
"Yes," Byron respectfully nodded.
Yvonne, terrified, forgot to continue crying. She clung to Chad without letting go.
Chad had truly become the knight protecting the princess, as Chad fought with Byron and the men he brought.
I gave a sharp look to my bodyguards behind me.
In just seconds, Chad was held down, and Yvonne was taken away.
The maids fell silent, their gazes now full of respect and fear as they looked at me.
Just as I was eating the blue lobster and bluefin tuna that Byron had specially ordered for me from the kitchen, a cold voice rang out, "Grace, are you causing trouble again today?"
The owner of the voice exuded an aura of elegance, his every movement graceful. It was my fiancé, Antonio Kaufman.
I couldn't help but sneer. "If you're here for your other woman, you're a bit too late, aren't you?" I thought.
I didn't respond to him. Antonio then sat beside me.
He took the towel handed to him by a maid, wiped his hands, and quietly began peeling shrimp for me.
Antonio's slender hands with distinct joints looked very attractive.
In the past, I had thought Antonio was everything I liked, and I would give him even more affection.
So, slowly, I stopped being myself and started to cater to him.
Now that I thought about it, I really was foolish.
When Antonio finished peeling the shrimp and handed it to me, the only response he received was my cold gaze.
His hand froze in mid-air.
"What's wrong? Are you still upset?" Antonio asked.
"Did you come to beg for Yvonne?" I asked.
Antonio placed the shrimp on my plate elegantly, with an air of high nobility.
But no one knew that Antonio was once just an unwanted illegitimate child.
If it weren't for my family, the Parrish family, taking interest in him, how could he have had the chance to rise? And how could he now act so elegantly?
"Yvonne grew up with you. How did you become so distant? Besides, her health isn't good. Mr. Zander did it all for her health. You should forgive them whenever you can."
"Oh? How should I forgive them?" I asked, my eyes wide with a smile, just like how I used to fawn over him.
"Just withdraw the case. If you care so much about the lost things, I'll just pay for them.
"Yvonne's health isn't good. I know you're just angry and wouldn't really send her to Moonlight River Club. That's a private club all sorts of people go to. How could she survive there?"
I scoffed at Antonio, unamused.
Chapter 4
"Is it because I haven't been spending time with you lately? Even if you're in a bad mood, you still need to behave. You can't keep throwing tantrums. You should be kind and gentle because that's what I like, do you understand?"
The oppressive aura of authority came at me, the air thick with its presence. The tone, so high and mighty, made Byron, Andrew, and Bryce frown as they stood nearby.
But neither of them dared to speak. They all knew how much I adored Antonio.
In my previous life, I would fulfill every one of Antonio's requests unconditionally.
A loud "smack" echoed in the huge and lavish dining hall, mixed with my laughter.
Antonio was left staring at me in disbelief, his hand pressed against his cheek.
Why did both Chad and Antonio make this expression today?
Was it really that surprising that I slapped them?
Tears almost welled up from the laughter, "Antonio, are you teaching me how to do things? Hahaha! Does a lowly illegitimate son think he can teach the legitimate heir of the Parrish Group? My father wouldn't even dare to order me around, who do you think you are?!"
Antonio's expression shifted slightly.
I stared at him and reached out to pat his cheek with even more disdain.
"You better behave like a good dog and make me happy. Maybe I'll throw you a bone or two.
"But you expect me to listen to you and become kind and gentle, just because that's what you like?
"I'm about to die laughing. Do you think your affection is worth anything? My father is Jordan Parrish! Have you forgotten?"
Antonio's face darkened completely.
A rare panic flashed across his features.
Yes, Antonio had forgotten.
My affection had made Antonio forget how ruthless and decisive my father was, and how incredibly powerful he could be.
It had also made Antonio forget that as the sole daughter, I was to inherit the entire Parrish family empire.
I wiped my hands, stood up, and prepared to leave.
Antonio rushed forward, grabbed my arm, and started throwing a question, "Gracie, what's wrong..."
Having had a high and mighty attitude for too long, Antonio had forgotten how to court my favor. And now, he didn't even know how to continue speaking.
Another loud slap rang out, sending Antonio's head to the side.
"Get lost. My family will inform the Kaufman family to cancel the engagement."
